Kerr Dam Reservoir, Boydton, Virginia

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates this 50,000 acre reservoir and an additional 50,000 acres of surrounding land. In the 1950's, Kerr Reservoir, also called Buggs Island Lake, was constructed primarily to provide for flood control and hydropower generation. The 900 miles of wooded shoreline stretch across three counties in Virginia and three in North Carolina. Five campgrounds are operated by the Corps of Engineers, seven by the North Carolina State Parks and two by the Virginia State Parks.

There is a small grave yard from the Land family near the campground, with a confederate soldier. The Land family’s daughter was 9 years old when she passed and the chapel for named after her.

One of our favorite FREE camping spots… Walmart! This over nighter is in Kannapolis, North Carolina.

Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park - Pine Mountain, Georgia

We’ve made our way over to Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Georgia. We got a little lost following are Garmin NUVI. She (Lola) decided to go to Lazer land management area, which turned into a mess of mud and unpaved back roads. Of course it was raining… pouring the whole time. We got to go the Little White House that FDR used while he was here. Unfortunately we forgot our camera. We all enjoyed the tour and the kids got to do scavenger hunt.

We got a little ways up the road and figured we'd better turn around.

We finally made to FDR State park, and it rained and rained!

All the rain gave us some extra time for school work.

After it dried out some we did some hiking, here is a 2mile trail that

lead to a swimming pool that is spring feed. It was closed but pretty

interesting the way it is constructed with rocks.

The next trail we tried was the nature loop, which turned out to be 3.2 miles long.

It was a great hike following a small mountain creek.

Soperton, Georgia

Finally getting to post and update, finding these great out of the way places usually means no type of cell service. Just nice small towns and friendly people. I guess that’s the price we have to pay! :)

Here we are at Jeff & Jodi’s property near Soperton GA. We stayed here 6 days, working on removing a room and a surplus of stuff from Jeff’s garage. We filled a 30 yard dumper with walls and junk.

Kissimmee Prairie

We’re already a getting behind on posting. Things have been real busy, we finally have all our stuff stored here in Dublin GA. Here are some pictures of a side trip we took to Kissimmee Prairie state park. Very nice camp ground in a Hammock tree stand. We got to take a swamp buggy ride out through the prairie and see how man has changed it over the decades. The State Parks system is working on restoring the prairie to the way it was originally, but it’ll take decades.

We’re at our friends property in Georgia now helping them do some demo work on there storage building. We’ll post more soon….

Well the house is sold, the money is in the bank and we’re hanging out with some friends till we make the next move to the Georgia storage shed. Jane's giving her notice today, so we have about 2 weeks till we hit the road!

Closing Day

Closing Day!!!!!

We closed today, 30 minutes and we were done! Now we have some more sorting of stuff in the trailer and storage to do. We’re going on a camping trip to Kissimmee Prairie State Park this weekend. We’ll spend another two weeks in Plantation, then move our stuff to Georgia and begin our new life!

Can't believe we got all our stuff out of the house!
