Flag Mountain, South Dakota

We heard from local residents camping here that Flag Mountain was near by. We packed a lunch and went exploring. This is the mountain Custer picked to post a flag to notify his troops to keep marching to Wyoming. Wyoming is only about 20 miles from here. The mountain is just shy of 7000 ft high.

In this photo you can see the boat ramp at Deerfield Cove, which is part of Dutchman campground. It’s managed by our Camp Host buddy Roger.

The Powder House Lodge

On the recommendation of most of the locals we headed to the Powder House Lodge for their famous prime ribs and twice baked potatoes.

They lived up to their reputation of fine food!

Where we live, work and play

This is our site at Whitetail campground South Dakota, we’ve been jazzing it up a bit adding some crushed gravel around the fire pit, a rock wall and some rock border.

These are the upper loop camp sites

These are the lower loop camp sites on the lake

Mountain City day use/picnic area, this is one of the areas we manage.

Custer Trails Campground and Boat Launch

This is the other campground we are responsible for.

If you need rules, we have plenty of them

The Water Tank
We’ve been working on a water leak at our holding tank. There’s no water here so we pump it from a well in the valley thru a chlorinator to a 3000 gallon holding tank on top of the mountain behind the campsite. From there the water is gravity fed to the 2 camping loops. The lower loop has a water leak we have been trying to fix.

This is the well down in the valley.

Here's a short video of some of the drive up to the top of the mountain. Our truck barely fits thru the trees.

Bear Country USA

We used our VIP cards and went to Bear Country today.

The kids received their official Bear Country tattoos and we were off to see some bears! They have a mixture of Black Bears and Grizzly Bears.

This Grizzly was showing off for some pretzels!
